Feb 15, 2008 The Oedipus Story Introduction The Labdacids: A Family Saga in Myth 1. Examine from mythological perspective, in term of folk tales and inter play between historical narrative and Oedipus play. 2. The Cadmean Family Tree Sum: Kadmos leaves Lebannon looking for sister and when he gets to Greece he’s told to look for Thebes. There he follows the oracle and slays a serpent. Plants the serpents teeth and grows men (the spartoi) kill one another. 3. Cadmus 4. Polydorus: only his children continue, wife is of the original descendant of men who grew from serpent. 5. Labdacus (“lame” λ) : becomes king briefly 6. Laius (“left handed”) Lycus: a region that takes place because Laius is too young Pelops and Chrysippus: first homosexual abduction. Chrysippus commits suicide. Pelops (father) is angry that their guest did that and was cursed. Either have no children or be killed by son. 7.
