Robby Regan Mr. Spotila National Park Portfolio 3 December 2009 Yellowstone National Park The Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 and is one of the greatest national parks in the United States. It is one of the largest parks in the nation, sizing larger than Rhode Island or Delaware. Yellowstone National Park is famous for many of its many geologic features. Many people around the world know of the famous geyser, Old Faithful. At one time, Old Faithful can shoot up from 4,000 to 8,000 gallons of water, reaching heights from 100 feet to almost 200 feet. Sometimes the eruptions can last up to 5 minutes. Scientists were able to put probes down Old Faithful’s shooting hole to help determine each of the geyser’s eruptions. Now, scientists are able to get the timing of the eruption within 10 minutes of the actually occurrence. Although it is not the largest geyser in Yellowstone, it is still one of the most studied geysers today. The rocks in Yellowstone span for much of the Earth’s history. Some rocks can be dated
