Robby Regan Rregan12 11/9/10 Tuesday 2:30 1. Even though many mental health professionals reached those in need after Hurricane Katrina, they faced several barriers in doing so. The transportation cost to get those that needed helped was largely expensive, which forced them to leave the clients they currently were working with. 2. They tried many different kinds of treatments because they were not sure which one was the most effective with post-trauma. Many of these different interventions included crisis initiatives, psychoanalytic techniques, creative arts, play therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and pharmacotherapy.

Psychologists can be trained for cultural competence in three ways: obtaining knowledge about specific people and groups of people, integrating and transforming this knowledge into specific standards, and using these tools to increase the quality of services and produce better outcomes. 4. I was not largely impacted by Hurricane Katrina. The only thing that came out of it for me was watching all the different news clips about it. My sister actually lived on the coast of Mississippi when it happened, but she wasnt at her house when it actually hit....
