Jan. 11, 2007 Similarities & Differences of Genesis to other texts -The Creation -Babylonian cosmogony (account of the origins): Enuma Elish -male fresh water and female salt water fish -kids becomes disobedient & parents have problem -solution: to kill the kids -first attempt the kids escape & choose a leader mark duke “god of the storm cloud and thunder bolt” -kids are victorious in battle, parents lose -cut mother and puts half of vault for heaven and half for earth (makes the cosmos) -Mark duke creates human race because the gods “his siblings” are too lazy to do it himself -this poem is recited yearly “magical force” -retold/point: ensure seasons of the year would be normal (sun rise and trees grow) -behavior closer to human working together -The Genesis Account -only one God, no birth or biology, no family -sexual procreation doesn’t take account -God doesn’t negotiate, no obstacles “kids” -world quality: no sneak attack, no resemble human, moral, high expectations for the human race -Doesn’t make the cosmos, only brings life to the humans
