9_Slide_key_xxx This part is not quite symmetrical (1-3/32 x 2 + 5/32 = 2-11/32). It can be created from a single extrusion of the front view, so this part we will build from an extrusion with an internal sketch. Open the new part and select the extrusion icon. Note the instruction in the information window at the bottom-right of the screen. Open the placement window and select Define .

9_Slide_key_xxx (2 of 4) Select the FRONT plane and open the sketcher. Beginning at the origin, sketch the profile of the slide key, observing the constraints. Note that L1 ensures both walls of the shaft are of the same depth. Also note that there is no constraint forcing the two upper surfaces on either side of the slot to be equal. Next, define dimensions, placed as they are in the original sketch.

Unformatted text preview: Regenerate and Lock Scale boxes. Now all the proper dimensions can be added. When this has been done, selecting the green check box will cause the drawing to regenerate. Accept the sketch, and the extrusion dashboard will re-appear. Set the extrusion depth to .186 as shown on the part drawing. 9_Slide_key_xxx (4 of 4) • Accepting the extrusion completes the part. Don’t forget to save it! If the profile had been more complex but still not quite symmetric, it might have paid to sketch half of the figure and then to create a mirror of the other half. Adding the overall length measure then would have created a conflict as shown to the right. This could be easily resolved by then deleting the symmetric constraints as shown below. Use the selection filter to facilitate the selection of constraints; hold the Ctrl key to select more than one item....
