Political Science Notes January 24, 2011 Marxism – Dos Kapital (The Capitalist) – a critique on the economy of capitalism written in German by Karl Marx and edited in part by Friedrich Engels, first published in 1867. Economics Social Class – society consist of two classes (The Two Classes Oppose Each Other): 1. Proletariat – large class – works for smaller class a. Also the class of industrial wage earners, who possessing neither capital nor production means, must earn their income by selling their labor. b. The poorest class of working people. 2. Bourgeoisie – small class – has its own means of production a. The ruling class of the two basic classes of capitalist society, consisting of capitalists, manufacturers, bankers, and other employers. b. The richest class, owns the most important means of production through which it exploits the working class.
