Daillen Hughes 10/03/2011 Media Buying and Planning This essay will focus on media habits and/or usage between African American, Hispanic Americans, and Chinese Americans. The purpose o this essay is to develop a better understanding of where and how to market to diverse groups. Through this essay we will discover which medium is primarily used amongst these minority groups and why. First we will examine the media research done on African American usage of media. Starting with television, according to a Nielsen Media study done in 2005, 12% of the 109.6 million US household with TV’s are African American and 13% of total persons in TV households. According to my calculation that is about 13,152,000 potential consumers, a company can reach through television. The highest populate demographic within the African American groups is men and women 18-49. A year after this information surfaces, Nielsen Ratings created an African American Advisory Council (AAAC). The purpose of the council is to advise with the
