Elorm Avakame October 16, 2008 Foundations of Exercise Science Final Paper Life as an Orthopedic Surgeon To realize my dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, there are numerous obstacles that I will have to overcome. The road to that specific career is narrow, and seldom traveled, and the journey is grueling. The light at the end of the tunnel sometimes seems faint, but I remain hopeful that once I reach that light, I will find my professional fulfillment. To understand why I selected this career choice, one must understand my background. Growing up, I fell in love with sports and also with science. Like any other young boy, I aspired to become an NFL superstar. After a few years, I realized that this dream would most likely not come to fruition. However, I knew that unless my future occupation had something to do with sports, I wouldn’t be truly happy. Therefore, I decided to mix my two loves, sports and science, and become a sports doctor. The dream developed, and I decided to aspire to become an orthopedic surgeon for professional athletes. More specifically, my dream job is to become the head surgeon for the Philadelphia Eagles or for a collegiate program such as Rutgers University.
