ME365 PRE-LAB EXERCISE FOR LABORATORY 2 Fall 2011 1 Read ME365 Laboratory 2 in the ME365 Lab notes, and then complete the Pre-Lab 2 assignment (this will be collected at the start of lab 2). 1. Follow the steps below to convert binary code to theoretical voltage ranges. You will need the information on page 5 of your lab notes to complete this exercise. a) Convert the binary number 1010 1011 to a decimal number. (Hint: see page 3-13, case (a) in the course text) b) Compute the theoretical no error voltage that corresponds to this number. Note: The stored voltage and the incoming voltage are equal when there is no quantization error. (Hint: see page 3-4 in the course text) c) Give the range of voltages that could have produced this code. Here you must take quantization errors into account. (Hint: see page 3-4 in the course text) This procedure will be used to fill in the first two columns of the table on page 11 of your lab notes. We recommend you fill in this table before lab time. 2.
