Biklen’s data 1. Background: Melvin was taken from his parents home at age 5 because of suspected abuse and neglect (burned hand over the stove flame) 2. Adopted by Mary Lou 3. Local social services placed him in an institution for 2.5 years 4. One of three children who could walk and none could speak. One of the youngest people there. 5. Foster families returned him to the institution because of difficult behavior 6. Communication: Melvin communicates through 5 manual signs: eat, run, more, music, and help. 7. Story/narrative: He ran away to McDonald’s for hamburgers. 8. School: Went to school at Jowonio 9. School: He met Mary Lou at Jowonio 10. Behavior: He pulled hair and bit other children and teachers
