Constants: Use g =32.2 ft/s 2 or g =9.81 m/s 2 , =62.4 lbs/ft 3 or =9.81kN/m 3 , =1.94 slug/ft 3 or =1000kg/m 3 . Problem 1: (40 points) Reach A upstream is steep. Reach B downstream is mild. Given a discharge of Q = 20 m 3 /s, a 5 meter wide rectangular channel. Reach A has a slope of 0.01. Reach B has a slope of 0.003 and a Manning’s roughness of n = 0.025 (Normal depth, y 0 , on Reach B is 1.78 meters.) Determine the potential range of Manning’s roughness “ n ” values on Reach A such that Reach A is steep and the occurrence of any hydraulic jump will be confined to Reach A.
