The discharge is 50 ft 3 /s, slope is 0.01 ft/ft, Manning’s n is 0.02 (i.e. like in Problem 1 above.) Your design is defined as most efficient if the cross-sectional area is minimized. What channel width, “ b ”, will produce the most efficient channel for these conditions? Solution: Please read your text, Chaudhry (Page 284) or Henderson (pages 101-103). The problem I have asked amounts to minimizing cross-sectional area for a given discharge. If area is minimized, then velocity is maximized.
