1 Virginia Tech Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering CEE 5734 – Urban Hydrology and Stormwater Management Homework #2: The SCS/NRCS Graphical Peak Discharge Method Due: February 2, 2011 This homework closes out the Rational Method calculations left over from the Homework #1 that were delayed until this week. This homework then introduces the student to SCS/NRCS methods: defining and making use of basic quantities such as the Curve Number ( CN ), Storage ( S ), Initial Abstraction ( I a ), Runoff( Q ), Travel Time ( T t ), Time of Concentration ( T c ), and Peak Discharge ( Q p ). The homework reinforces the calculations associated with developing a basin averaged CN value and to use the graphical peak discharge method. In all calculations students will demonstrate an appropriate understanding of significant figures.
