1 Virginia Tech Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering CEE 5734 Urban Hydrology and Stormwater Management Homework #4: The NRCS WinTR-20 Rainfall-Runoff Model Due: February 23, 2011 This homework introduces the student to the NRCS WinTR-20 rainfall-runoff model. The students use this program to determine peak discharge in a sub-divided watershed system, to determine peak discharge change due to urbanization, and finally to begin the detention basin design to control development increases in peak discharge. In all calculations students will demonstrate an appropriate understanding of significant figures. Tasks: 1. Download and install the WinTR-20 rainfall-runoff computer program from: http://www.wsi.nrcs.usda.gov/products/w2q/H&H/Tools_Models/WinTR20.html Please note that in addition to the program itself, documentation and a user’s guide area available at this page as well. System Definition: The watershed being studied in this analysis is shown below. The tables on the next page provide the sub-area and reach characteristics needed.
