1 Virginia Tech Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering CEE 5734 – Urban Hydrology and Stormwater Management Homework #12: Nutrient Loading, BMPs, and Best BMP Strategies Due: April 27, 2011 (slightly revised after class) This homework will reinforce lecture examples on nutrient loading calculations, nutrient removal through BMPs, and BMP optimization. Calculations: 1. Use the “Simple Method/PLOAD” to determine the total Phosphorus, Nitrogen, and Lead annual loads for a 1.2 mi 2 watershed that is 60% “older urban areas” and 40% “hardwood forest”. Use the EMC data from Schueler (1987). Assume an annual rainfall of 40 inches, imperviousness of older urban areas are 85%, imperviousness of hardwood forest is zero, and Lead EMCs from hardwood forests are 0.0 mg/L. 2.
