2)An optical ﬁber is made out of transparent material of index of refraction n = 1.5, in the
shape of a right circular cylinder. The axis of the cylinder is the z axis and the faces of the
cylinder are at z = 0 and z = L. Neglecting losses in the ﬁber show that all light entering
the ﬁber at z = 0 is trapped in the ﬁber and will get to z = L. Will the same result hold
if n = 1.1? Explain by calculating the largest angle of incidence at z = 0 for which all the
light gets to z =L.
