Week 1: Distributed Network Requirements Analysis Organization Description The organization we will be providing a network design document for is CIOX, a healthcare information management company based in Alpharetta, Georgia. The organization provides services like billing, medical records storage, release of information, and information security. Organizations that aren’t medical institutions also rely on CIOX as well, with insurance companies like Geico, Allstate, and State farm adapting their next gen platform for access to medical information. Company Location & Size CIOX Health was founded in 1976, and its current headquarters is located near the Atlanta metro area, in Alpharetta, Georgia. Before changing its name to CIOX in March of 2016, the organization was formerly named Healthport Incorporated. The company works through a major network servicing a large amount of physical locations around America, with its number of employees being roughly 7,500. Using a large distributed network, CIOX has made its services available for over 18,000 medical providers and over 1 million requesters of patient information. (HealthCare IT News. 2016) Benefits of a Distributed Network The organization utilizes a large distributed network providing services for internal and external clients. By maintaining a distributed network housing, the data accessed by these clients, CIOX can provide proper security for its products. Potential clients would first have to be authenticated, and only granted access using rules established at the network level. The network also provides a secure source for financial transactions, access to privileged or private information, and even access to software the organization uses. Updates to the software suite offered by CIOX will be pushed through its distributed network, ensuring every client attempting to utilize the organizations services will do so through the proper version of the application. With the progression of technology some of CIOX’s employees are now working from home and using their distributed network the organization can grant access at the
employee level for this work. The network is configured in a manner where employees or internal clients can connect via VPN’s, while external clients download the software for access to that same data. The software suite used by CIOX is titled NEXTGEN and the medical imaging technology known as Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PAC). By using these services for the storage and delivery of medical information, CIOX provides over 18,000 different organizations with the ability to collaborate or share data. For a company of this size it’s important that CIOX utilizes what’s called a distributed network
