ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS 1)There exists 7 crystal systems namely; Cubic, Hexagonal, Tetragonal, Rhombohedral, Orthorombic, Monoclinic, Triclinic. The diffrerence between them is their axial relationships and interaxial angles. Here are the relationships. Crystal System Axial Relationships Interaxial Angles Cubic a=b=c α=β = γ= 90° Hexagonal a = b c α=β =90°, γ= 120° Tetragonal a=b b α=β = γ= 90° Rhombohedral a = b = c α=β = γ≠90 ° Orthorhombic a b c α=β = γ= 90° Monoclinic a b c α=γ = 90 ° ≠β Triclinic a b c α≠β≠γ≠90 ° 2) Diffraction occurs when a wave encounters a series of regularly spaced obstacles that (1) are capable of scattering the wave, and (2) have spacings that are comparable in magnitude to the wavelength Electromagnetic waves have high energies and short wavelegth. X-Rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation which has high energies and have short wavelength. When a beam of X-Rays strikes to a solid material, a portion of this beam will be scattered in all directions because X-Rays can pass through the materials because of its short wavelength and reflected by the atoms in the material.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
