ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS 1)There exists 7 crystal systems namely; Cubic, Hexagonal, Tetragonal, Rhombohedral, Orthorombic, Monoclinic, Triclinic. The diffrerence between them is their axial relationships and interaxial angles.Here are the relationships. Crystal System Axial Relationships Interaxial Angles Cubic a=b=c α=β = γ= 90° Hexagonal a = b c α=β =90°, γ= 120° Tetragonal a=b b α=β = γ= 90° Rhombohedral a = b = c α=β = γ≠90 ° Orthorhombic a b c α=β = γ= 90° Monoclinic a b c α=γ = 90 ° ≠β Triclinic a b c α≠β≠γ≠90 ° 2) Diffraction occurs when a wave encounters a series of regularly spaced obstacles that (1) are capable of scattering the wave, and (2) have spacings that are comparable in magnitude to the wavelength Electromagnetic waves have high energies and short wavelegth. X-Rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation which has high energies and have short wavelength. When a beam of X-Rays strikes to a solid material, a portion of this beam will be scattered in all directions because X-Rays can pass through the materials because of its short wavelength and reflected by the atoms in the material. 3)We have got some necessary conditions for diffraction of electromagnetic waves by crystals
