Objective: The aim of this experiment is to conduct temperature measurement tests in order to demonstrate the use of thermocouples for high temperature measurements. Apparatus: 1. Vertical tube furnace 2. Thermocouple calibration cell 3. Thermocouple 4. Potentiometer 5. Mercury in glass thermometer Sample used: Tin (Sn) is used as a sample Summary: As long as temperature measurement takes a great part in experimental errors, in industry finding a way to measure th temperature such that gives: accuracy and needed speed of response by the application acceptable initial investment and long life and stability of calibration and low maintenance cost at the same time To achieve these goals reminded above, two types of temperature measurement methods have been discovered: 1. Direct (i.e. the sensor of the measuring instrument stays in the close vicinity of the heated object whose temperature will be measured)

2. Indirect (i.e. measure the intensity of radiation or a change in the spectral distribution of radiation as a function of temperature) A thermo couple, which can be listed under direct temperature measurement techniques, is a system composed of two homogeneous metal wires, that have different chemical composition, soldered, fused or welded together at one end (called Hot Junction
