EXPERIMENT 6:CALORIMETRY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this experiment is to conduct heat of combustion and chemical composition measurement tests in order to demonstrate the use of a bomb calorimeter. APPARATUS: 1) Parr 1341 Oxygen Bomb Calorimeter Unit 2) Ignition Unit 3) Oxygen Tank 4) Computer 5) Data acquisition system SAMPLE USED: Coke powder with active coke powder. SUMMARY: Calorimetry is the quantitative measurement of the heat required or evolved during a chemical process. A Calorimeter is an instrument for measuring the heat of a reaction during a well defined process. Constant volume calorimetry measures the Internal Energy change between Reactants and Products, but constant pressure calorimetery measures directly the Enthalpy change during the reaction. These two heats are slightly different when gases are evolved or consumed during the transformation. (Gases evolved expand if at constant pressure

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
