Objective The objective of this experiment is to find the crystal structure of an unknown material with X-ray diffractions. Apparatus and Sample 1 unknown sample, X-ray diffractometer, intensity vs. 2θ graph. Theory There are seven crystal systems which have different lattice parameters. X-ray diffraction of these lattices is different. The scattering waves are used for finding crystal structures. The scattering waves can be destructive or constructive. x= d hkl sinθ 2x= 2d hkl sinθ nλ= 2d hkl sinθ where θ= diffraction angle
