PSYCH 101 WHY STUDY PSYCHOLOGY ? WHY STUDY PSYCHOLOGY ? Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Understanding why people behave as they do is helpful in many different situations. Business: Why do people play the lottery or buy bottled water? Economics: Why do stock markets soar and crash? Dating: What makes someone attractive? How can I keep my relationship strong? Medicine: Why do people make potentially deadly decisions about their health? Family: How can I raise my child to be happy and successful? Drugs: Why do some drugs slow people down and others speed them up? Policing: Can you detect when someone plans to hurt others? Politics: Why do people from different political parties see the world so differently? Driving: What’s so bad about talking on my cell phone or texting while I drive? University: What’s the most efficient way to study for tests?
