Ethanol Trade-Offs Ricardo C. Estrada G00036382 GS104 2011 The three advantages of using Ethanol are; reduced CO2 emissions (sugarcane- bagasse), high net energy yield (bagasse and switchgrass), and potentially renewable. The world has seen a significant increase in pollution over the past quarter century. There are many factors that contribute to this alarming trend that if left unnoticed with affect the future of our kids and grandkids in decades to come. One of the factors is that technology has evolved so rapidly. There has been an increase the use of machinery versus the old way of doing things such as manual labor. Although this method has not only allowed manufacturing companies to keep up with supply and demand it also keeps the cost of production low. This sounds great to a consumer but the underlying problem is that all the manufacturing machines need resources to operate like gas or oil. As these machines burn off the fuel used it lets out to the earth’s atmosphere CO2 emissions which is dangerous not only for human inhalation but also to the ozone
