1 CHY 203 W’2010 ASSIGNMENT #1 1. A sample of vegetation weighing 6.250 g was ashed to destroy organic material, and the inorganic residue was acid digested and diluted to 100 mL in a volumetric flask. A portion of this solution was aspirated into an air-acetylene flame and an absorbance value of 0.125 was obtained using the 283.1 nm Pb line. Next, 0.100 mL of a standard solution containing 55.0 ug of Pb per mL was added to 50 mL of the sample solution.

Unformatted text preview: When this spiked sample was aspirated into the flame, the absorbance was found to be 0.180. Calculate the Pb content of the vegetation sample in parts per million. Hint: This is a standard addition method. Assume that the addition of 0.100mL of standard is negligible with respect to volume. NOTE: Please complete the above problem and hand it in on Tue. Mar. 2, 2010 at the beginning of the lecture @ 4:00 PM....

What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
