The project is worth about 5 HWs and you should allocate effort accordingly. In the project report you should introduce the problem, any relevant literature, describe the method you and other investigators use to study it, show your results, and discuss what you have learnt/discovered. You may choose your own term project, although you should consult with me and with your research supervisor. Here are some examples, but your choices need not be limited to these. Rotorcraft dynamics 1. L. Cveticanin, Resonant vibrations of nonlinear rotors, Mechanism and Machine Theory, Vol. 30 (4), 1995, pp. 581-588. 2. Evgueni V. Karpenko, Marian Wiercigroch and Matthew P. Cartmell, Regular and chaotic dynamics of a discontinuously nonlinear rotor system, Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, Vol. 13 (6), 2002, pp. 1231-1242. 3. Fulei Chu and Wenxiu Lu, Experimental observation of nonlinear vibrations in a rub-impact rotor system, Journal of Sound and Vibration, Vol. 283 (3-5), 2005, pp. 621-643. 4. J.W. Larsen and S.R.K. Nielsen, Nonlinear parametric instability of wind turbine wings, Journal of Sound and Vibration, Vol. 299 (1-2), 2007, pp. 64-82. 5. S.K. Das, P.C. Ray and G. Pohit, Large amplitude free vibration analysis of a rotating beam with non-linear spring and mass system, Journal of Vibration and Control, Vol. 11 (12), 205, pp. 1511-1533. Nonlinear Pendulum dynamics 1. John Miles, Resonant motion of a spherical pendulum, Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, Vol. 11 (3), 1984, pp. 309-323. 2. Anastasia Sofroniou and Steven R. Bishop, Breaking the symmetry of the parametrically excited pendulum, Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, Vol. 28 (3), 2006, pp. 673-681. 3. David J. Sudor and Steven R. Bishop, Inverted dynamics of a tilted parametric pendulum, European Journal of Mechanics - A/Solids, Vol. 18 (3), 1999, pp. 517- 526. 4. J. S.
