HUM 100 Module Four Short Answer1. Having read the articles presented in this module, reflect on how their discussion of intent and the changes to it affect your interpretation or understanding of the Statue of Liberty. As taught in grade school the Statue of Liberty was a gift from our allies in France to celebrate our centennial of Independence and our Liberty from the England. From reading The Statue of Liberty: A Transatlantic Story has shown another side of the Statue of Liberties meaning that I was not aware of. My new understanding is the Statue of Liberty held two separate meanings depending on which side you were on. For the Americans it was a celebratory gift from allies as I previous stated. However, from the French side it was an expression of their political unrest with their current leadership. The Statue of Liberty to the French at that time was more of a symbol that the Frenchwanted the same freedoms as the Americans.
