The timing plan of an approach (with 1-lane) to an intersection is as follows: Effective red: 30 seconds Effective green: 30 seconds The approach volume is 600 vph and the discharge volume is 1600 vph. (a) Determine the average delay per vehicle based on D/D/1 queuing analysis (b) Construct the space-time diagrams showing the shock waves based on each of the three q-k curves shown in Figure 1. (c) Determine the delay based on each of the diagrams constructed in (b) (d) Are answers in (c) identical? Are they identical to (a)? Discuss similarities and differences. What do we gain by conducting the analysis in (b) and (c)? Where and when would results obtained in (c) be useful? 2.
