If you want to drill for money in Washington DC, you hire a lobbyist, because we agree, my partner and I stand in firm affirmation for this debate, resolved: In the United States, organized political lobbying does more harm than good. Contention 1: The most powerful clients, whose aspirations arent in the best interest of the United States, hire the best lobbyists. Powerful unworthy clients are misinforming congress and lobbying bills to benefit themselves, but not benefiting the US . Clients like the Tobacco Industry, which according to Open Secrets had spent $28.4 million on Lobbying in 2008, are misinforming congressmen and creating loop holes in bills, thus creating more harm for the United States. The Youth Access to Tobacco Prevention Act of 2003, raised fines for minors to purchase Tobacco, however lobbyists were able to negotiate having the bill not worry about machines and have loose regulation at stores, which still poses...
