1 Hopen – Parjus AFFIRMATIVE January PF debate “We will go forward with the confidence that right makes might , and with the commitment to forge an America that is safer , a world that is more secure , and a future that represents not the deepest of fears but the highest of hopes”, because we agree with the words of President Obama we affirm the following resolution, resolved: President Obama's plan for increasing troops in Afghanistan is in the United States' best interest. Contention 1 : Obama’s plan will deny a chance of a victory for al Qaeda in Afghanistan , by decreasing their ability to run a propoganda war . Al-Qaeda poses a huge threat to the United States. An article from BBC, explains the harms of al Qaeda. They report that there have been 4 successful al Qaeda attacks in 8 years before the American withdrawal and nearly 14 in 8 years after , including 9-11, killing 3,000 people According to CIA Director George Tenet , Bin Laden's terrorist network in Afghanistan remains "the most immediate and serious threat" to American security”. Furthermore, . a A ccording to Lee Hamilton, vice chairman of the 9-11 commission, “Before 9-11, the Islamic extremist group financed its $30-million a year budget”. Now more people are giving donations and their budget is increasing, as a result from successful plot to increase legitimacy. The impact of this is that al Qaeda

2 is growing and becoming an ever-increasing threat that must be stopped. Not only is the group growing, by they are largely in Afghanistan. A terrorist list comprised by the UN, about major al Qaeda leaders says that 10 out of the 14 left lay in Afghanistan. It is vital to stop these sources because if not, al Qaeda will have the ability to launch a propaganda war. According to the Washington Post, United States must remain in Afghanistan because a victory here would mean a rapid proliferation of al-Qaeda fighters
