Contention 1 : Obama’s plan will deny a chance of a victory for al Qaeda in Afghanistan, by decreasing their ability to run a propoganda war. Al-Qaeda poses a huge threat to the United States. According to CIA Director George Tenet, Bin Laden's terrorist network in Afghanistan remains "the most immediate and serious threat" to American security”. Furthermore, according to Lee Hamilton, vice chairman of the 9-11 commission, “Before 9-11, the Islamic extremist group financed its $30-million a year budget”. Now more people are giving donations and their budget is increasing, as a result from successful plot to increase legitimacy. The impact of this is that al Qaeda is growing and becoming an ever-increasing threat that must be stopped. Not only is the group growing, by they are largely in Afghanistan. A terrorist list comprised by the UN, about major al Qaeda leaders says that 10 out of the 14 left lay in Afghanistan. It is vital to stop these sources because if not, al
