In other words, consider the image as consisting of 32 by 32 blocks, each of size 8 by 8, with each 8 by 8 block then subject to a 2D DCT. (1a) Implement zonal compression on the image F15.gray by setting to zero in the transform domain all coefficients in each transformed block having or . In other words, you should retain all the DCT coefficients in a square window of size . For each 8 by 8 transformed block , this gives you a new array satisfying Examine the image and note the normalized mean square error (NMSE) values for 1, 2, and 4. (1b) Find the variance for each of the 64 DCT coefficients for this image. Since you have a total of 32 × 32 = 1024 blocks the resulting variance matrix should exhibit a smooth falloff from DC to high frequencies. II
