Homework 8 Geog210a Due: December 2, 2011 Problems from text : 10.5.5, 10.5.11, 10.5.12, 10.6.9, 10.6.13, 10.7.1, 10.7.5 (use ICs x=1 & y=-1), 10.7.13(plot with Matlab), 10.7.15, 10.7.18, 10.8.5, 10.8.9, 10.8.18 DV Problems: 1. A Taco Smell ® customer chokes on his Chile Cheese Chorizo Chimichunga (C4; yum). An observant customer notices the problem and administers the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the blockage and sending it hurtling across the restaurant (sic). The Chile Cheese Chorizo Chimichunga hits a wall 2.7 seconds after leaving the victim’s mouth and an observant customer, being a savvy Geog 210a student, notices that the horizontal velocity of the projectile (in ft/s) can be modeled as: V(t) = a b + c t where a = 5.7 ft/s, b = 1.2 (no units) and c = 0.7 (1/s). How far away from the wall was the victim? Remember V = d(distance)/dt. Redo your solution using the ODE solver ODE45 in Matlab (see Matlab handout for information). Plot out both your analytical solution results and Matlab’s numerical one.
