Joe Littman Pg. 19 # 1-13 1. Geology is the study of anything pertaining to the earth. 2. Two fast earth processes are earthquakes and major volcanic eruptions; two slow earth processes are the rise of mountains and the erosion of river valleys. 3. The earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old. 4. Some resources geologists look for are coal, oil, natural gas, uranium, precious metals and iron ore. 5. One reason you cannot simply perform a lab experiment to solve a problem in geology is that often times the things you are studying take longer then your life time to show any change that you could study. Also a lot of times the things you want to study are too big to study in a lab. 6. Laws are statements or equations that always succeed in describing what will happen. A theory is a generally accepted explanation for natural phenomena that explains why nature behaves the way it does. An example of a law would be Newton’s law of inertia which is an object in motion will stay in motion unless
