Slaves’ names were erased and changed and along with that were their heritage ii. Gather people together to for a community of African Americans to reaffirm their beliefs and identity b. Ingathering of People to reaffirm bonds between them i. People from all over the country celebrate the cultural holiday ii. Milkman trip to Virginia pursuing greed; however, ends up connecting with family who make him feel welcome and give him a sense of community c. Reverence for creator i. Respect and remembrance of creation more so than the creator d. Remembrance of the past i. Pursuing greatness of ancestors lives: honoring their lives ii. Milkman pursues the story of Solomon trying to find out more of his great-grandfather e. Recommitment to cultural ideals of the African ways f. Celebration of the Good (Family, community, culture)
