Biological Molecules - 15 Terpenes Over 22,000 different terpenes found in plants, and include some important pigments such as the carotenoid pigments that are responsible for the orange, red and yellow colors of many plants. Chlorophyll, the light absorbing green pigment important in photosynthesis, is a modified terpene. Many plant aromatic oils are terpenes.
