Unformatted text preview: Exact vs. Approximate Answers Unless other instructions are given, your math instructors will typically expect you to give exact answers to problems, with the possible exception of word problems. For example, if the answer to a problem is , you should write . In addition, you may be asked to write some decimal approximation such as 3.14. Expressions such as 2 , ln5 (see Chapter 3), and sin37 (see Chapter 4), should be handled similarly.
