Jason Christian 3 Ms. Chamberlain AP Senior English 03/20/06 Will nothing good will last? Is it too good to be true? Do the good times have to go? According to Robert Frost’s poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay , nothing good does last. In Madame Bovary , by Gustave Flaubert, Emma Bovary refuses to accept her reality and this eventually causes her death. Although being different genre of writing, both Madame Bovary and Nothing Gold Can Stay comprise the theme considering inability to face reality. In very few words, Robert Frost describes nature losing its shine. He subliminally compares our human nature to want more “things” to Mother Nature and her unfulfilled desire to beautify her surroundings. While gold in nature becomes the “hardest hue to hold,” we as people see good times leaving and worse times coming. Simply put, Nothing Gold Can Stay is a symbol of our desire for love, entertainment, and innocence but each stays for only a short time. Eventually the shine fades and lust leaves.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
