Before marriage: Don’t talk yourself into thinking it is better than others in past & present. After marriage: Realize that marriage is God’s will – so it is better than past or present alternatives. Before : Don’t assume it’s God’s will; After : do assume it God’s will. A Four Stage Model: 1. Sampling – via appearance, location, etc. 2. Bargaining – determine rewards and costs of relationship (exchange theory). Do they have same values/interests etc.? Complement each other in personality?
