Kimberly Taylor8-1 Project 3CJ-205-J6803August 14, 2020The issue of public trust that arises here is the fact that a community member is counting on a member of law enforcement to handle a “minor” situation and the officer does not handle it in the way she wants him to. In the store owner’s, and other community member’s eyes, this could give the impression that law enforcement is not capable of handling major issues or crimeseither. Addressing the issue of public trust can be done in many ways, but I think in this situation,the best way to address it is by explaining the reason behind the officer’s decision to the store owner. Making or asking the man to leave will only help the problem for a short time but talking to the man and offering ways to get help could make the situation better permanently, at least for that man. The officer used discretion by not arresting the man for all the laws that he was breaking, instead he talked to him and told him how to get help. The officer could have easily
