Lindsey Faucher FSW 281 DLA #3 2/19/10 I believe that mothers who use drugs during pregnancy should face criminal prosecution, because not only are they affecting their own lives but they are also affecting the life of their unborn child. Mothers who use drugs during pregnancy during pregnancy do not realize that they are not the only ones they have to worry about anymore: their child is being exposed to everything that the mothers are doing or using during pregnancy. I personally believe that this is a huge deal and should be taken more seriously. In my opinion, fetal abuse is the equivalent of child abuse. Mothers who expose their children to such harmful things during childbirth should be punished. Babies deserve to have the same protection as children, especially when they can’t do anything to fight back for themselves while in the womb. I do not think that babies should be in the care of mothers who cannot even

This is a life we are talking about, and if the mother is having issues of her own that have affected this new life, she should not necessarily be the one to take care of it. By agreeing to have a baby and take on all of the responsibilities that go along with it, a mother should not be allowed to harm the baby at all whatsoever. If criminal prosecution was not the way to go then I would suggest having mothers go to counseling and to drug rehabilitation centers. These mothers need to get their lives back on track so that they can provide for their babies. By getting their lives in order they will be able to provide for the baby properly. While they are in rehab, the baby should be entrusted to a family member, so that the mother can be allowed to see the child occasionally....
