Baseband Pulse and Digital Signaling Pulse Amplitude Modulation PAM, Pulse Amplitude modulation, conversion of an analog signal to a pulse-type signal in which the amplitude of the pulses contains the analog information. PAM is studied first because is the first step in PCM encoding and in a few applications no further operation is required. Because we are using pulses we would expect the badwidth of the PAM waveform to be wider than that of the analog waveform The pulse rate is the same as the sampling frequency.
