1 ECE2c Problem set #7: Problem 1: Common gate amplifier. The fet has a 0.3 Volt threshold, with the gate needing to be 0.3 volts *negative* of the source to turn the device on. The FET has 1.0 nm oxide thickness, 250 nm gate length, mobility is 200 cm^2/(V-s), and 1/lambda is 20 V. Use a constant-mobility model. The supplies are + and - 2.5 Volts. RL=4 KOhms and Rgen=100 Ohm Pick the gate width, Rs, and Rd so that the drain voltage is -1 V, the source voltage 0.7 V, and the drain current 1 mA. Rd RL Rgen Rs -Vdd Vgen +Vss a) Give all resistor values b) Find the small signal Vout/Vin, Vin/Vgen and Vout/Vgen c) Find the amplifier input and output impedance (d) Find the maximum positive- going and negative going outputs. Problem 2: Common base amplifier. The bjt has beta=50 and Va=50 V. Vcc is 5V and Vee is -5 V. RL= 2 KOhms and Rgen=100 Ohm. DC bias: Pick Rc and Ree so that the transistor is biased with a Vcb=2.5 volts and Ie=1 mA. a) Give all resistor values
