This problem concerns the beer comparison example on page 10 of the PLS Toolbox 3.0 manual. As indicated in the manual, the 6x11 data matrix for this example is contained in an Excel file, Redbeer.xls in the “dems” folder. In this exercise, you should investigate the following issues: a. Do the PCA results change significantly if a different scaling method is used? Consider the three methods available under the Tools Preprocess menu b. Repeat part (a) for auto-scaled data and different numbers of principal components. What is the recommended number of PCs that result from using the cross-validation approach? From requiring 85% or 95% of the cumulative variance to be explained? c.
