UCSB CS 111 - Introduction to Scientific Computing Final Project 1 - Due on the final exam day at 5pm You are not allowed to work in group for the final project. The goal of this project is to implement the nonlinear denoising algorithm of Perona and Malik. Consider a noisy image 1 u with pixel values referenced by u ( i,j ). Nonlinear denoising can be achieved by solving the following nonlinear diffusion equation: ∇ · ( g ( u ) u ) = 0 , with g ( s ) = ν 1 + | s | /K 2 , where ν and K are parameters controlling the amount of diffusion. 1. Write down the linear system associated with this discretization.
