An inverted cylindrical container of diameter d and height l is ini- tially filled with air heated to a temperature T O (this temperature is above that of the ambient temperature T amb ). This container is put into contact with the surface of water contained in a shallow dish of diameter D , which is initially filled with water to a level h . The lower edge of the container is always maintained at a position where it is just in contact with the water surface. After some time the air in the inverted container is cooled to T amb and it is noticed that half of the water initially in the shallow dish is now in the inverted container.
