By Aaron Smith, CNNMoney.com staff writer Last Updated: September 22, 2008: 11:37 AM EDT NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Microsoft announced Monday that it was planning to buy back an additional $40 billion worth of shares and fellow tech giant HP followed with a proposal to repurchase $8 billion worth of stock. Microsoft said its board of directors approved the $40 billion buyback plan, after having just completed its previous $40 billion stock repurchase program.
