Welcome English Teachers! Today’s Discussion: Integrating writing to enhance learning in your classroom. Strategies to engage students in diverse perspectives and incorporate various learning styles. Activities to incorporate written expression in your classroom. Role and practical knowledge of improving literacy across the board in school.
Why should writing be incorporated in our content area? Reading and writing in classroom requires that students be actively engaged. Being engaged in the classroom is a GREAT motivator. Students need to be taught how to read specific texts. Knowing how to read actively increases engagement. Similarly, writing (in any discipline) needs to be taught and constructed in a way that leaves the student feeling confident in their abilities.
Integrating Reading and Writing Read material with qualities of good writing and ask students to evaluate the writing according to a specific set of standards. Take time in class to discuss what makes the piece so well-written. Consider having students collaborate with one another to decipher what makes the writing so excellent.
