If you want to do a report on a topic not listed here, then just ask Prof Heath or one of the two TAs about it. light scattering x-ray diffraction NMR spectroscopy vibrational (infrared or Raman) spectroscopy circular dichroism dielectric spectroscopy electronic spectroscopy fluorescence or absorbance (i.e. green fluorescent protein) Fluorescence Resonant Energy Transfer (FRET) Single Molecule Spectroscopies (could be fluorescence, FRET, Raman, etc.) Electron Spin Resonance etc. Pick one or two papers from the scientific literature (primary paper must not be a review paper) in which your spectroscopy technique is a key component of the research findings Pick your papers by Jan 20 give the citation to Alex Sutherland (TA) Turn in report and ppt presentation by Feb 3 We will start presentations on Feb 8 4 Assignment: Each student in this class will give one report to the class on a topic related to biomolecular spectroscopy. This assignment is worth 15% of your grade. It will involve a BRIEF oral presentation, and a 2-3 page written summary. The oral report guidelines (please follow): 4 powerpoint Slides Slide #1: Background of technique equipment needed, what type of information can be extracted; how long has it been around. Slide #2: Your literature example of the technique how was it applied? What was the biological system to which it was applied Slide #3: Calculations relevant understanding the data all spectroscopy methods rely upon some physical model to explain the interaction of light with the experiment.
