2 Some divisions (and subdivisions) of A&P Gross (macroscopic) anatomy = the study of structures that can be seen with the naked eye – Some different approaches to study gross anatomy: surface, regional, systemic, developmental, or clinical anatomy Microscopic anatomy = the study of structures too small to be seen with the naked eye – Cytology = the study of cells – Histology = the study of tissues Physiology – Some different approaches to study physiology: cell, organ (e.g. cardiac), systemic, or pathological physiology Fig. 1-1, p. 9 simplest most complex (cells are made up of organelles) • Chemical (molecular) = atoms/molecules (building blocks of matter) •C
