Running head: UNIT 1 Abstract The writer of this essay has been asked to speak at a career fair for high school students in their home town. Specifically, the author is making a presentation about her role as an accountant. She will describe for the students the primary objectives of accounting. The author will explain the basic terminology of the accounting process or financial reporting. She informs the students how accounting has affected her personal life emphasizing professional ethics. The last thing she will explain is the role that technology has played in small business accounting. In the business world, it is important to use research to strengthen points made in presentations and projects. Learning to use the search functions in databases for research is a crucial critical thinking skill that complements other research techniques. The object of the author’s essay is to understand & explain the Accounting Equation and its components (of assets, liabilities & capital), and identify the various user groups that need accounting information and the characteristics of the information that they need.
